VH1 is a 24 hr cable television network and is part of MTV Networks Australia. VH1 is available on the FOXTEL, AUSTAR and OPTUS platforms. MTV Networks Australia is made up of the following departments.
- Ad Sales: Ad Sales is responsible for generating revenue through advertising and sponsorship. We sell airtime on and association with MTV Networks Australia. The Ad Sales department includes Sales (the team who deal with clients and sell ad spots on the channel), Client Service and Traffic.
- Client Services: Client Services is all about makings things happen – working very closely with the Ad Sales team, Client Services work on client proposals and presentations to present to the client. Then after the deal is sold, we work closely with other departments to ensure that all client commitments are carried out.
- Creative: The creative dept. is divided into two areas: on air and off air. On air develops the look and feel of the channel through station id’s, show title sequences and style guides, image campaigns, program promotion (tune-ins), advertising support spots and competition spots. Also all the graphics for the channel, such as logos are designed through Creative. The off air dept. develops advertising campaigns alongside the marketing department for print media, graphic design for merchandise (such as stickers and t-shirts), stationery and promotional reels for sales and marketing purposes.
- Communications: The Communications function works to secure editorial exposure and communicate programming, brand headlines and business via relevant media. Manage VJ profile and activity.
- Finance: The Finance Department coordinates all of our revenue streams, from digital and mobile content, Subscriber Fees & Ad Sales to bring the money in and processes all of our payments, including supplier’s invoices, petty cash, employee expense claims & payroll. These day to day receipt and payment transactions then inform our planning activities as we coordinate the company wide budgeting and restatement process and liaise with Regional HQ in Singapore to meet the targets they set and communicate back to them the reality of our Australian market and activities. We are here to support the business and ensure that all of the financial transactions you need to make are smooth and efficient.
- Human Resources: HR is about all factors that come together to connect people and employment – recruitment, remuneration, employment & freelance contracts, performance management, training & development, policies & procedures etc. At MTV Networks Australia HR is also coupled with Administration, which includes all equipment and services that you need to help you do your job – computers, office space, relocation, insurance, travel services etc.
- Marketing/ Events: At MTV Networks Australia marketing and event management go hand in hand. These functions aim to maximise off air brand exposure and program campaigns through advertising, sponsorship and promotions via print, radio, on-line and events.
- Production: Production is your one stop shop for local content. We’re all about making the shit you want to see, transition from a brain fart in a meeting, to a stroke of genius on the small screen.
- Production Management: The dynamic and thrilling land of Production Management primarily looks after the day to day needs of the Production department including booking crews, edit suites, VJ management, location management, tape traffic and other equally dangerous duties. We also provide light entertainment when bookings are made in advance (and the drinks are free).
- Talent & Artist Relations Manager: The TAR department co-ordinates the musical artists, celebrities, sports personalities and movie stars that are associated with the channels. From the booking of guests, interviews and performances on to our local productions ensuring interviews and exclusive opportunities are targeted and secured.
- Programming: The MTV Networks Australia programming team is responsible for the overall on-air schedule (shows & music), the programme inventory, planning, strategy, selection and ordering of the new shows available for the channels. This team also ensures the broadcast co-ordination and full integration of all inter-departmental commitments e.g. From ad sales, production, marketing and on-air promos. The programming team constantly analyse the ratings and audience profile to ensure we are super serving the channels’ audience. This ensures MTV Networks Australia remains their #1 destination for music, entertainment and celebreality television.
- Traffic: Traffic is a function working within Advertising Sales that enables the commercials to air. Traffic receives the commercial schedule from adsales/Client Services and ensures they are booked into the correct breaks with no conflicts and comply with the commercial codes of practice. Traffic also is responsible for administering the commercial material for all clients ensuring they reach the on air playout facility at FOXTEL and are correctly scheduled.
- Strategy: The Strategy department focuses on expanding the business by developing new; markets, platforms and business areas to generate future revenue streams. For example launching MTV Network channels in Australasia, brokering and developing digital media deals and partnerships, fostering new markets such as New Zealand and developing MTV Networks Australia strategies and long range plans.
